CHARACTER
NAME: Daniel J. D'Arby
FANDOM: Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders
CANON SYNOPSIS:
Daniel is an exceptionally wealthy gambler whom practically owns a whole section of Cairo due to his skill in cheating people out of their property. He pledged his loyalty to Dio in return for continuing his operation. This, unfortunately, leads him to confront the heroes of Stardust Crusaders.
Daniel says he will reveal information to them should they beat him in a game of chance. Polnareff is the first to challenge him by trying to guess which piece of meat a cat would take. After Polnareff loses, the cat is revealed to actually belong to Daniel. It is then that D'Arby's Stand, Osiris, reveals itself. Osiris takes the souls of those who admit defeat to Daniel, even if they do not verbalize such. Daniel chooses to store the souls in poker chips...
The second game was a game to see who could continuously put coins in a full cup of wine without spilling which Joseph loses (despite his own attempt at cheating). Joseph's soul is taken as well and Jotaro finally challenges Daniel to his best game, poker. This, of course, causes the remaining crusader Abdul to question Jotaro's sanity.
In this game, Daniel reveals, inadvertently, Osiris's other power that grants him a super-human sense of touch. This allows him to pretty much tell what cards are being drawn as he deals, allowing him to cheat. Using his own stand, though, Jotaro catches him in the act and breaks his finger. No matter, as Daniel calls in a "neutral third party" (aka a boy that Daniel paid off to cheat for him) to deal the cards. Jotaro, whom never looks at his cards, proceeds to make radical bluff after radical bluff. His face never falters, and his confidence remains so strong that Daniel cannot play against him. Jotaro could never admit defeat, therefore Osiris could not claim his soul. Daniel drives himself mad from the pressure and folds, losing the game and surrendering all information he had on Dio.
ONORATA-VERSE BACKGROUND:
Daniel is the inheritor and owner of a casino within Reggio Calabria. He makes a living by swindling poor saps out of their money, including a lot of low ranking idiots within all three warring factions. Daniel, however, plays no sides in the war and offers a percentage of the casio's profits to both families as well as corrupt upper brass in the AMC. He takes care of his younger brother Terrence, whom he uses to hustle customers out of their winnings should they come close to walking away big.
Daniel has no Stand in this world, but does retain his sense of tough that allows him to cheat when dealing cards, amongst other things. He has always had this ability for as long as he can remember, hence why he took so well to card playing and hustling even when he was a small boy. The D'Arby's have always been gamblers, and this ability gave him an edge to inherit the D'Arby Casino (now called the D'Arby Brothers' Casino and Gaming Parlor) over his older and wiser cousins. The decision turned out to be a wise one, and he quickly turned the profits of the casino around to make it into the wealthiest gaming institution not directly owned by one of the two families.
